Sei whales
The Sei Whale is a species of baleen whale that is found in Mirissa, Sri Lanka. They are typically dark grey or black in color and can grow up to 20 meters in length. Sei Whales are known for their streamlined bodies and slender, pointed heads.
In Mirissa, Sei Whales are commonly sighted during the months of December to April when they migrate to the area to feed on the abundant krill and small fish. They are often seen swimming close to the surface of the water, and can sometimes be observed breaching or tail slapping.
Sei Whales are classified as endangered due to overhunting in the past, and are now protected by international conservation laws. Mirissa is a popular destination for whale watching tours, and responsible tour operators follow strict guidelines to minimize disturbance to the whales and their habitat.
