Humpback whales are a species of baleen whales that can be found in the waters around Mirissa, Sri Lanka. They can reach lengths of up to 16 meters and can weigh as much as 36,000 kg.

Humpback whales are a popular attraction for tourists visiting Mirissa, as they can often be seen breaching and playing in the waters around the area. These whales are known for their acrobatic displays, which can include leaping out of the water and slapping their fins on the surface.

During the months of December to April, humpback whales can be seen in large numbers in the waters off the coast of Mirissa as they migrate from their feeding grounds in the Antarctic to warmer waters to breed and give birth.
