Minke whales are another species of baleen whales that can be found in the waters around Mirissa, Sri Lanka. These whales are smaller in size compared to other baleen whales, measuring up to 10 meters in length and weighing up to 10,000 kg. They are known for their slender bodies, pointed snouts, and distinct white bands on their flippers.

Minke whales are also a popular attraction for tourists visiting Mirissa, as they can often be seen feeding in the area’s waters. These whales are known to be fast swimmers and can often be seen darting through the water in pursuit of their prey. They are also known for their ability to dive to great depths, often reaching depths of up to 200 meters.

Like humpback whales, minke whales can be seen in the waters off the coast of Mirissa during the months of December to April, as they migrate to warmer waters to breed and give birth. Whale-watching tours are a popular way for visitors to get a closer look at these incredible creatures and learn more about their behavior and habitat.
